Margaret M. Buchanan, 89, a resident of Sedona died May 31. She was born August 10, 1914 in Valparaiso, Indiana, where she lived her entire life until moving to Sedona eight years ago to live with her son Jim Buchanan and Bob Arehart. She was preceded in death by parents Allen J. White and Martha Stevens-White, a brother, James and husband Edward J. Buchanan. Surviving family includes sons Jim Buchanan of Sedona, Richard Buchanan of Valparaiso, Indiana and brother Ret. Col. Allen S. White of Alexandria, Virginia, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Margaret had a varied professional life. She played piano in a dance band, owned her own children\u0027s clothing store, and did accounting at home for small businesses. She then worked in sales and alterations for a fine women\u0027s clothing store. After her husband of 54 years was elected Sheriff of Porter County, Indiana, she became cook and matron for the county jail. Margaret then worked in the Porter County Recorder\u0027s Office for four years until managing the Valparaiso Branch of the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles for 13 years before retiring. Memorial services were held in Cottonwood at Country Ranch Assisted Living on June 4 and Valparaiso, Indiana on June 9. Arrangements were handled by the Westcott Funeral Home.
