Marge June Maston

June 21, 1941 — November 27, 2005

Marge Maston, resident of Jerome, AZ for over fourteen years and most recently of Cottonwood, AZ passed away Saturday, November 27, 2005. She was born June 21, 1941 in Hemet, CA to Claudine and Ross Maston. Marge was employed by the State of Arizona Social Services in the Department for Adult Protective Services. Her skills as a caregiver and commitment to excellence were admired by both supervisors and co-workers alike. Even in later years when she herself was ailing, she looked for ways to brighten the lives of those less fortunate. Marge had a great sense of humor. Quick to laugh. Her infectious laugh was the music of her soul. If there was any fun going on, she wanted to be a part of it. Marge was an active member of the community and participated in many events and organizations. Volunteering at the Chamber of Commerce Visitor Center was a way for her to share her love for historic Jerome, where she had her dream home. Fun events with the Red Hat Society Old Towne Gals of Cottonwood fulfilled a need for her at a critical time in the last year of her life. Her commitment to the Jerome Humane Society was a reflection of her love for animals. Her two cats, Twinkletoes and Houdini gave her unconditional love and were a joy and comfort to her. Marge\u0027s many outdoor activities included bicycling, hiking and bird watching. Astronomy was another love in her life. While working on her degree in sociology at Northern Arizona University, Flagstaff, she was editor for the Campus astronomy newsletter. Her passion for solar eclipses resulted in travels to the Caribbean, Hawaii and Africa. She was a member of several astronomy clubs in the Verde Valley and attended many star parties. Marge is survived by her son, Derek Hofstetter of Flagstaff, AZ, a brother, Leonard of Grants Pass, OR; and a sister, Ruth of Dousman, WI and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Three dear friends who were instrumental in her life were Mary Wills and Joan Evans, both of Jerome, and Paul Lease of Clarkdale. A Memorial Service was held in Marge\u0027s Honor on Saturday, December 3, 2005 at the Haven Methodist Church in Jerome. At her request, her ashes were scattered over Mingus Mountain. An online guestbook is available at www.westcottfuneralhome.com
