Marjorie Bennett Harwell, 94 of Cottonwood, Arizona, passed away on November 23, 2024 in Cottonwood. She was born on October 17, 1930 in Providence, Rhode Island to George and Margaret (Martin) Bennett. Her mother was the first Rhode Island Mother of the Year in 1947.

She married William E. Harwell from Cape Girardeau, Missouri on September 21, 1950 in Cape Girardeau. They were married for 65 years until his passing in 2015. She was the last surviving member of her generation.

Marjorie was in banking all her life and retired from Citizens Bank in Providence, RI in 1986. She and her husband then moved to Sedona AZ then to Cottonwood, AZ.

Survivors include two sons, Jeffrey and his wife Barbara Jo of Houston, Texas and Lee and one granddaughter Celine of Tampa, Florida. Marjorie was preceded in death by her brothers Robert H. Bennett (1948 Olympic bronze medal holder in the hammer throw), Major Frank E. Bennett, USAF (F-105 jet fighter pilot killed in the Vietnam War in 1965), Arnold “Sky” Bennett (who played for the Boston Red Sox farm team), and sisters Dorothy Folsom and Mildred Pelser. Marjorie leaves several nieces and nephews in Florida, Rhode Island, Virginia, California and Missouri.

Marjorie encourages everyone to “Climb Every Mountain” (from the movie “Sound of Music,” Marjorie’s favorite song).

Westcott Funeral Home in Cottonwood is handling the cremation. There will be no services. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Verde Valley Humane Society, 1520 W. Mingus Ave, Cottonwood, AZ 86326 or to Hospice of the Pines, 13175 E. State Rt. 160, Dewey, AZ 86327.
