Mary Evelyn Hackney, 84, long-time resident of Cottonwood, went home to be with the Lord on October 2, 2015. She had been in hospice care since July when her health began to rapidly fail. Mary, or "Evie", as many of her friends knew her, was born in Kiowa, Oklahoma on June 27, 1931. The family later moved to Oregon, and in 1950 she met and married husband, William "Bill" Hackney. In 1960 they moved to California to raise their two young daughters, Teresa and Loydell. During this time Mary became interested in art and became quite an accomplished oil painter. After Bill\u0027s retirement in the mid-80s, he and Mary traveled extensively while working with M.M.A.P. , an organization that provided volunteer labor to churches to help build schools, classrooms or other needed structures. During their travels they discovered they liked the area around Clarkdale/Cottonwood, so in 1990 they decided to settle there. Bill passed away in 1995, but Mary continued to make her home in Cottonwood where she remained very active. She enjoyed her church family and had a great capacity for helping others. She was always available to assist or fulfill a need for her many friends and loved doing so. Mary is survived by daughters Teresa McCamish (Mike) of Oregon, and Loydell Marcom (Geron) of Northern California, as well as two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband Bill and brother Marion "Porky" Randolph, as well as several half-siblings. No services are planned at this time. The family requests that donations in Mary\u0027s honor be made to Verde Valley Baptist Church. An online guestbook is available at www.westcottfuneralhome.com
