Cottonwood resident, Mary Carrillo Hernandez, 83, passed away Wednesday, May 27, 2004. Mrs. Hernandez was born in Jerome where she grew up and graduated from the old Jerome High School. She married her husband of 58 years in 1942 at the historical Holy Family Catholic Church in Jerome. In 1953 the family moved from jerome to San Manuel, AZ when the mine closed and returned later to retire in Cottonwood. Mrs. Hernandez was a devoted homemaker, mother, grandmother and a faithful member of the Immaculate Conception Church. She was highly involved in the Spanish Choir and was instrumental in bringing the Spanish Ministries to the Verde Valley with it expanding into Northern Arizona. Mrs. Hernandez was preceded in death by her husband Isidro, sister Sara and daughter Christine; she is survived by two sons, Edward Hernandez of CT, Steven Hernandez of Phoenix; 9 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren. The Rosary will be recited at the Immaculate Conception Church on Wednesday, June 2, at 7:00 P.M. A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, June 3 at 4:00 P.M. at the Immaculate Conception Church with graveside services following at the Valley View Cemetery. A reception will be held afterward.
