Mary Lou Andersen

Mary Lou Andersen of Sedona, AZ passed into eternity on November 15, 2022. She was born in Racine, Wisconsin to Hans Peter and Anna Andersen on June 13, 1929. She was a proud first-generation American whose parents immigrated from Denmark. True to her heritage, Mary Lou was a strong, independent and intelligent woman. She earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin – Stout in 1955 and served an internship at the University Hospitals of Cleveland. She earned her master’s degree from Case Western Reserve University in 1961 and practiced as a Clinical Dietitian in hospitals and nursing homes. She served as the President of the Ohio Dietetic Association. After moving to Jackson Hole, she worked as a Clinical and Consultant Dietician and served as President of the Wyoming Dietetic Association. In Ohio, Mary Lou met Maxine Cammarn and they went on to share many adventures in Wyoming and Arizona. Mary Lou gave generously of her time and knowledge through her volunteer work, writing and speaking engagements. She served on committees for the League of Women Voters. She enjoyed quilting, reading, playing cards and cooking. She was an avid sports fan and displayed an impressive knowledge of the players and nuances of each game. She enjoyed the challenge of new things – even giving tap dancing a try! Mary Lou’s parents and brother Peter passed before her. She is survived by her nieces Kristen (Joel) Browns, Katherine (Seth Behrends) Andersen, Peggy (Randall) Peterson, and Suzette Dederich, her nephews Mark (Iris) Andersen, Mark (Tawanna) Havrilak, Marty Havrilak, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. Remembrances may be sent to Stout University Foundation or the charity of your choice.
