Merritt J. Schwan, 85, of Cottonwood died January 18. He was born July 3, 1924 in Mt. Clemens, Michigan, the son of Walter F. and Clara (Werfelman) Schwan. Mr. Scwan was baptised and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church. He graduated from Trinity Lutheran School in Mt. Clemens, Michigan. He served his country in World War II as a navigator on B-24 bombers in the China-Burma-India Theatre. Mr. Schwan was a certified public accountant, receiving his degree from the University of Southern California and also worked as an agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation for five years, asigned to the Phoenix office but stationed in Tucson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma (White) Schwan and his second wife Violet Schwan and daughter Penny. Mr. Schwan is survived by a son Craig A. Schwan of Sanibel, Florida; brothers Walter Schwan , Glen Schwan, both of Michigan and Norman Schwan of Florida and sister Ellen Schwan of Michigan.
