Michael Charles, 55, resident of Cottonwood, passed away on Tuesday, May 6, 2008. He was the son of Oland and Lola (Freeman) Charles; born July 31, 1952 in Houston, Texas. Michael was a graduate of Sierra Madre High School, in California. Michael worked as a Mechanical and Avionics Engineer; a balloon pilot; as well as in computer design. Michael was the owner and operator of Arizona Balloon Works; and took great pride in taking first place at the 2003 Great Reno Balloon Race. He not only enjoyed hot air balloons, but also radio control airplanes and helicopters, sailing, kites and various sports. He is preceded in death by his parents. Michael leaves behind his loving wife of 16 years, Laura Charles of Cottonwood; his son Gregory (13); his daughter, Megan (6); three brothers, Greg Charles with his wife Julie of Lake Charles, Louisiana, Steve George with his wife, Jill of Albany, Texas, and Doug Freeman with his wife, Sandy of Modesto, California; brother-in-law, Tim Satorius with his wife, Lorna of Annandale, Virginia; and his father-in-law, Carl Satorius with his wife, Shirley of Marshfield, Wisconsin. Services will be held on Friday, May 9, 2008 at the Peace Lutheran Church in Cottonwood; where Michael was a member. Visitation will start at 10:00am with the Funeral Service to follow at 11:00am.
