August 1, 2016 talented artist and retired local musician Michael Joseph Marquez, 42, of Cottonwood passed away. He was born December 11, 1973 in Flagstaff, AZ to Sharyn (Word) and Alexander Marquez. "The world definitely has less laughter and love without Michael in it." S.P. Michael grew up in Cottonwood; attended Mingus Union High School and Yavapai Community College. A kick ass guitarist known for playing in local bands: Desert Ratz, Fourth Border, and Turn Eleven. Michael influenced many lives through his hobbies of art, music, bicycle riding, and martial arts. He was someone you instantly looked up towanted to beand ultimately became one of your favorite people. A comedian in his own right Michael would always try to put a smile on your face. He was kind, selfless and always willing to help anyone out. He holds the hearts of many and will forever be missed; that\u0027s just how he rolls. Michael was preceded in death by his grandparents- Dale and Norma Stearley, Gilbert and Maxine Marquez and Beatrice Marquez. Father- Alexander Marquez, Aunt-Margaret (Marquez) Thompson, and Great-Niece Kazlee A. Harrison. He is survived by his loving fiance Thea Dunning, Mother- Sharyn Word, Big Brother-Paul Marquez, Little Sister- Andrea Marquez, Nephew- Santiago Herrera, and Nieces- Darian Marquez and Alexia Herrera, Best Friends- Buck Bradford and Zach Glazer, as well as several other family members, neighbors and friends.
