Onofre Duran, 92, of Cottonwood passed away November 1, 2021, at his home. He was born November 4, 1928, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the son of Joe and Gertrudis (Baca) Duran. He was a graduate of Clarkdale High School. Onofre served in the Army and left as a Corporal with the Bronze Campaign Medal, Korean Service Medal, UN Service Medal and the Occupation Medal, Japan. He received his Barber’s license. Onofre owned and operated Duran’s Beauty and Barbershop with his wife Mary Ann. He studied and became a Permanent Deacon with the Diocese of Phoenix, stationed at Immaculate Conception Parish in Cottonwood. He retired as a Deacon several years ago. Onofre loved to barber, fish in the White Mountains, and his joy was to minister to the community. He leaves his wife of 69 years, Mary Ann; a son, Onofre Alex Duran (wife Chris) of Phoenix; daughters Rosemary Mason (husband Carter) of Littleton, Colorado, Jo An Chavez (husband John) of Avondale, Arizona; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A visitation will be held Friday, November 12 at the Westcott Funeral Home with a Vigil Service at 6 PM. The Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, November 13 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at 11 AM. Burial will follow at All Souls Cemetery with military honors.
