Oscar Gregory

December 25, 1925 — July 10, 2014

Oscar Gregory, 88, of Cottonwood, Arizona, made his journey home to be with the Lord God Our Savior on Thursday, July 10, 2014. He was born December 25, 1925 in St. Louis, Missouri to Oscar and Ruby (Sledge) Gregory, who preceded him in death. Oscar proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He received numerous medals of honor and was a survivor of D-Day. He loved to share his recollections of his Navy years, which his family will treasure forever. As a lifetime member of the VFW, the Elks, and the Moose, Oscar volunteered in many aspects for these organizations, including serving as a driver for Disabled American Veterans and helping in the Bingo halls that his wife loves to frequent. Oscar is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Marjorie Gregory; a son, Steve (Linda) Gregory of Allentown, Pennsylvania; two estranged daughters, Pat Martin and Karen Gregory; three stepdaughters, Brenda (Bruce) Boehner of Pasadena, Texas; Rebecca (Clay) Fraley of Kings, Illinois and Laura (Donny) McLane of Chandler, Arizona. He is also survived by a sister, Irene Paxson of St. Joseph, Michigan, 11 Grandchildren, and 10 Great-Grandchildren. Besides his parents, Oscar was also preceded in death by his only brother, Gene Gregory, a grandson and a granddaughter. A "Celebration of Life" will be held August 9, 2014 at the Mountain View United Methodist Church, Cottonwood, AZ at 11:00 a.m. with a luncheon reception at the Cottonwood VFW following the services. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his honor to Hospice Compassus and Cottonwood VFW Post 7400.
