Clarence "Pat" Spence, 66, of Cottonwood died February 9, 2011 in Phoenix. He was born May 15, 1944 in Charleston, Illinois, the son of Bert and Dorothy Spence. He graduated Charleston High School. He served his country in the Army during the Vietnam War. He worked for the Marcus J. Lawrence Hospital. He then worked the Town of Clarkdale from 1972 to 1996 starting as a volunteer reserve officer and moving up to serve as both Town Manager and as Police Chief. From 1996 to 2005 he became the Chief of Police for the city of Cottonwood. Pat was a big volunteer to the community, especially as a contibutor to the Boys \u0026 Girls Club. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, collecting quilts and antiques. He enjoyed vacationg with his daughter Minda . She will remember him as a great father and friend. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents. Pat is survived by his daughter Minda Spence of Mesa; a brother Donald Spence (Velma) of Charleston, Illinois; a sister Virginia Lee Forman of Charleston, Illinois: sisters in law Tina Spence and Norma Spence, both of Charleston, Illinois and Sandy Spence of Decatur, Illinois; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 18 at the Westcott Funeral Home at 3 PM.
