Varnell-Maynard, Patricia Ann, 81. The angels took our beloved mother and grandmother, Patricia Ann Varnell-Maynard to Heaven on January 16, 2013. She died in Sandy, Utah from complications of a hemorrhagic stroke. She was born January 26, 1931 in Madison, WI the only child to Lilian Breitenstein and Paul August Herfort. Her youth was spent in Baraboo, WI. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin with a BS related art degree, she headed West to work as a draftsman and junior engineer in Durango, CO. Patricia enjoyed climbing and hiking many of the mountains of the west including ascending the rugged Tetons and Sawtooth Mountains. In New Mexico, she met and married J. B. Varnell, Jr. the father of her children. They ultimately settled in Sedona. Her true passion was depicting the exuberance of God\u0027s creation using varying colors, sculptural shapes and vista of the vast western outdoors through her artistic creativity. Throughout her life, her artwork won many awards. Her work is in collections throughout the Southwest including Sedona, AZ and England. A life-long learner and teacher, Patricia continued her own education at Northern Arizona University in their Masters Art Education program and teaching art to the Navajo children in Shiprock, NM. Patricia was a devout woman who always placed her faith in God to assist her with her most treasured cares her family. Her days were filled praying for the young and for people who were sick or had other problems. Those touched by her prayers won\u0027t forget her kindness. Patricia was preceded in death in by her loving husbands, J.B. Varnell, Jr. and Bob Maynard. She will greatly missed by her daughter, Mary (Ray) Brannen, of Herriman, UT; sons, Steve (Denise) of Avondale, AZ, David (fiance Meera) of Sedona, AZ, and Pete (Wendy) Varnell of Austin, TX; 5 grandchildren, Jessica Ricketts of Beijing, China, Shaun, David, and Michael Brannen of Herriman, UT, and Samiah Varnell of Austin, TX; step-granddaughter, Bunmi Malinki-Odusote of the United Kingdom and her second family through her husband, Bob. Visitation will be from 9-10 AM Saturday. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, January 26th, 2013 at Westcott Funeral Home in Cottonwood.
