Pauline Evalydia Mewhinney, 85, of Cottonwood, died on Friday, January 17, 2014. She was born on February 14, 1928 in McNary, AZ to Lorenzo and Sophia Garcia. She attended Concho Elementary School, later working at the Silverman Caf where she met her husband Bill. She was a hardworking waitress and mother. She and Bill owned several small businesses like laundry services and restaurants throughout Holbrook, Ajo and Wickenburg, AZ. She was a member of the Catholic Church and the Sacred Heart League and she was able to travel to Spain at the age of 52 with a church group. She enjoyed going to church, playing with her grandkids and watching game shows. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Frank and Ted Garcia; her sons Earl and John Mewhinney and her grandsons, Gabe and Calvin Mewhinney and Jeremy Turley. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Bill Mewhinney Sr. of Cottonwood, her sons Bill (Debbie) Mewhinney Jr. of Cottonwood, Richard (Mary) Mewhinney of Cottonwood, and Mike (Lisa) Mewhinney of Phoenix; her daughter, Star (Larry) of Holbrook, her brother Labor (Tilly) Garcia of Concho; her sister, Saffrina (David) MacMillian of Concho; 19 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. The Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be said at 9:30 am on Saturday, January, 25, 2014 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 700 Bill Grey Road in Cottonwood, with a Memorial Mass to follow at 10 AM.
