Father Michael Francis Hurley, 90, pastor of St. Cecilia\u0027s Mission Catholic Church in Clarkdale died August 3. He was born March 12, 1915 in Chicago, Illinois. He attended St. Barnabas Elementary School, St. Rita High School, both in Chicago, and Springhill College in Mobile, Alabama. Father Hurley attended Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans, Louisiana from 1937 to 1943. He was ordained on May 29, 1943 in St. Louis Cathedral in New Orleans by Archbishop Rummel. His parish assignments began at St. Peter and Paul Church in New Orleans from 1943 to 1953, St. Leo\u0027s Church in Chicago from 1953 to 1961, All Saints Church in Tucson from 1961 to 1963, St. Simon and Jude Church in Phoenix from 1963 to 1969, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Tempe from 1969 to 1971, St. Margaret\u0027s Church in Bullhead City from 1971 to 1974, St. Clement of Rome Church in Sun City from 1974 to 1976 and then to St. Cecilia\u0027s Mission Church in Clarkdale from 1976 to his retirement in July 2002. Father Hurley was a devoted sports fan, especially to Notre Dame football. He will be remembered for his love and concern for his parishoners, his pride of his Irish heritage and his sense of humor. He is survived by a sister Catherine Kenny, wife of the late John Kenny, sister in law: Catherine Hurley wife of the late Thomas Hurley both of Chicago, nieces and nephews, Mary Kay Durkin of Chicago wife of the late Patrick Durkin, Lt., CFD, William and Carol Riordan of Chicago, Brian and Sharon Riordan of St. Louis, Missouri, Rev. John J. Kenny, CSP, of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Rev. Donald Kenny of Ecuador, Thomas and Dorothy Kenny of Indianapolis, Indiana, Thomas Hurley, Jr. and Kevin Hurley, both of Chicago, Illinois; seventeen grandnieces and grandnephews, twenty great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Bridget (Walsh) Hurley, a sister Anne and her husband John Riordan, another sister Helen and her husband Edwin Kessler, a brother Thomas Hurley and nephew John Riordan. A visitation will be held on Monday, August 8 in St. Cecilia\u0027s Mission Catholic Church from 1-5 PM. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 9 in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church from 4-8 PM. The recitation of the Rosary will be held at 7 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, August 10 in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in All Souls Cemetery.
