Richard Wiley Amis, 84, of Clarkdale died March 28. He was born March 19, 1920 in Las Animas, Colorado. He graduated from Phoenix Union High School in Phoenix, Vanport College in Portland, Oregon and the University of Arizona at Tucson. He was a rancher and also worked in the aircraft and missle industry, in refrigeration service, in well drilling and also as a builder. Mr. Amis was an Army Air Force veteran, serving from December 1941 to August 1945 as a Staff Sergeant in the 65th Bomber Squadron, the 43rd Bomber Group in the 5th Air Force Pacific Theater. He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Cottonwood and served as a sunday school teacher. He was also a royal rangers leader and was involved in the senior citizens ministries for 11 and half years. He enjoyed woodworking, mechanics, real estate and gold prospecting. Mr. Amis is survived by his wife of 56 years, Margaret Amis; three sosn, Richard Amis, Jr., Larry (Chris) Amis, James (Linda) Amis, all of Cottonwood; two daughters, Carol Vreeland of Prescott and Irene Goodon of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; thirteen grandchildren and sixteen grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 3 in the First Assembly of God Church at 3 PM. Donations in his memory may be made to the Northern Arizona Hopsice, 269 S.
