Richard L. Kurtz, 63 of Cottonwood, passed away on July 8, 2013. He was born on February 23, 1950 in Cottonwood to Roy Kurtz and Dorothy Hedges. Richard served his country during the Vietnam War in the United States Marine Corp as machine gunner and received the Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Campaign Service Medal, and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry. Richard was proud of his pistol expert badge and his rifle marksman badge. He enjoyed collecting coins, reading, movies, swords, knives and all things oriental. Richard was a loving, generous brother; always caring about the needs of others. We are so proud of our Marine Brother. Richard was preceded in death by his parents Dorothy and Roy and sister Barbara Downs. He is survived by sisters Mary L. Piper of Cottonwood, Helen A. Hopp (Rudy) of Glendale and Joanne L. Loparco (Vince) of New York. A graveside service with military honors will be held on Friday, July 19, 2013 at 12:30pm at the National Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N Cave Creek Rd in Phoenix.
