Richard T. Lopez, 76 of Cottonwood, passed away on Saturday, June 9, 2012. He was born on January 13, 1936 in Gallup, New Mexico to Tony and Irene Lucero Lopez. Richard attended St. Francis and Gallup High schools. He enlisted in the Navy during the Korean Conflict. Richard was a transmission specialist and enjoyed golfing. Richard was preceded in death by his grandmother Avalenea Lucero; father Tony Lopez; sisters Grace Hodges and Gloria Baca and grandfather Randy Lopez. He is survived by his wife of 55 years Patricia Lopez of Cottonwood; sons Richard Lopez, Jr. (Jeannette) of Colorado Springs and David P. Lopez of Colorado Springs; daughters Tina Leyba of Cottonwood, Sandy Martinez (David) of Gallup, NM, Eva C. Linn of Colorado Springs and Jody Sowers (Paul) of Gallup, NM; brothers Butch Lopez (Toni) of Gallup, NM, Michael Lopez (Theresa) of Gallup, NM, and John Lopez (Michele) of Colorado Springs; sister Patsy Mansfield (Francis) of Gallup, NM; mother Irene Lopez of Gallup, NM; 13 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. A memorial mass will be held on Tuesday, June 26 at 11:00am at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Gallup, New Mexico. A reception will follow the mass at the Sacred Heart Cathedral Family Recreational Center.
