Rose I. Chance

March 8, 1925 — February 2, 2011

Rose Irene Chance passed away at Verde Valley Medical Center at 1:25am Wednesday, February 2, 2011, with her son, David at her side. Rose was born March 8, 1925 in San Antonio, TX to James Curtis Davis and Evelyn Volz Davis. She grew up in El Paso, TX where she graduated from high school and attended college. On June 12, 1944 she married Clayton William Chance at First Baptist Church in El Paso. Shortly after the wedding she moved to Peoria, IL where she lived with Clayton\u0027s parents while he served in the Army overseas during World War II. After he was discharged in 1946, they moved to Cleveland, OH where their first two sons were born. A third son was born after the family moved to Austin, TX in 1953. Rose and Clayton lived in Austin until 1966. Following a year in St. Joseph, MO they moved to Flagstaff, AZ where Rose owned The Yarn Barn for several years. Rose and Clayton moved to Cottonwood in 1984 where they became very active members of Verde Baptist Church. They also shared a love of travel and antique cars which took them all over the United States. Rose was married to Clayton for 66 years prior to his passing on December 17, 2010. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Curtis Davis. She is survived by her sons and their wives, Curtis and Kim of Livingston, TX, David and Jean of Gilbert, AZ and Richard and Stephanie of Colleyville, TX. Also surviving are seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Services for Mrs. Chance will be held at 2pm Thursday, February 10, 2011 at Verde Baptist Church, Cottonwood and the burial in the National Memorial Cemetery Phoenix will take place at 11:00 am on Friday, February 11. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Verde Valley Christian School, 102 South Willard St., Cottonwood, AZ 86326.
