Socorro H. Lira of Cottonwood passed away on Wednesday, June 10, 2014. She was 98 years old. Socorro was born in Leon, Mexico on February 28, 1916 to Atanasio Hernandez and Maria de Jesus Hernandez. Socorro worked for the Cottonwood School District and has held many positions in her church over her 42 years in Cottonwood. In 1996 she was honored by the Phoenix Diocesan Counsel as Diocesan Woman of the Year. She especially enjoyed sewing, cooking and reading. Socorro will be deeply missed by her loving family and all her friends at Immaculate Conception Church. Socorro was preceded in death by her first husband, Tiodulo Jauregui and by her second husband, Jose Lira. She is survived by her sons, David Jauregui of Cottonwood, Richard Jauregui of Chico, CA and Joseph Jauregui of Cottonwood; her daughters, Carmen (Oliver Michael) Siems of St. Louis, MO and Irene Parsons of Anaheim, CA; 4 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. A visitation with rosary will be held on Sunday, June 15, 2014 from 4-6 P.M. at Westcott Funeral Home, located at 1013 E. Mingus Ave. in Cottonwood. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 16, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, located at 700 N. Bill Gray Road in Cottonwood.
