Stoney Harby, age 90, resident of Cottonwood, AZ died June 3, 2011 in Sedona, Arizona. He was born October 5, 1920 in Bremerton, Washington as Thornton L. Harby to Harold Harby and Emma Thompson Harby. He was a graduate of Hamilton High School, Los Angeles, California. He also attended Chouinard Art Institute, Los Angeles; and Ecole de Beaux Art and Academie Julian in Paris, France. He served his country when he enlisted in USMC the day after Pearl Harbor, achieved rank of PFC, served as a combat in the Pacific Campaign in World War II plus six months After WWII, he was a matte artist for Samuel Goldwyn Studios, Warner Brothers, and Paramount, working on such films as The Ten Commandments, The Bishop\u0027s Wife, Beau Geste, and Joan of Arc; instructor at Monterey Peninsula College; life-long artist, artifact maker, book illustrator, and author. His interests included Western artist; American Indian and Western history and studies; Early man His family will remember him for producing paintings and other art until his death, for his wit, charm, friendships, and joking banter, and as a loving father. He was preceded in death by father Harold Harby, mother Emma Thompson Harby, and brother Harold D. Harby Mr. Harby is survived by daughters Karen Hambali Matowik and Kathleen Reinhardt, son Gregory Reinhardt, five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. There are no services planned.
