Valerie Van Schaack Longfellow Eggert

Valerie Van Schaack Longfellow Eggert crossed over on August 26, 2006. Valerie was born in Evanston, Illinois. She became a Gamma Phi at the U of A in Tucson, earning a BS degree in Bacteriology. With a Shenley Grant and a published thesis on Ring Rot of Potatoes she also earned a MS degree in Plant pathology through a Ford Foundation Grant from Claremont College. Valerie became a teacher. She taught 1st-8th grades for 24 years in Upland and Palm Desert, California. Valerie and her husband, Paul retired to Sedona in 1979. She owned 4 different homes in Sedona, having built 2 of them. She was an Honorary Member of the Westerners. She belonged to Contrary Mary, Red Rock Garden Clubs, Republican Women, University Women, Welcomers, and Treasure Lore Antique Club. She played bridge with the Symphony, Elks, and Wind Groups. She donated her time to the Thrift Shops and Chamber of Commerce. Valerie was predeceased by two wonderful husbands, Paul Longfellow of 35 years and Bill Eggert of 15 years. She is survived by two daughters, Lark Vargas of Phoenix and Lynn Macdonald of Cherry, 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandsons. A memorial service will be held Sunday, September 10, 2006 at 1:00 PM at the Church of the Red Rocks, 54 Bowstring Drive in Sedona, Arizona. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be sent to the Northern Arizona Cancer Society, 2724 E.
