Virginia E. Honey

Virginia Elaine Honey, 89, of Cottonwood died October 19. She was born December 19, 1915 in Romulus, Michigan. She graduated from San Bernardino Senior High School in June 1933 and went on to graduate from San Bernardino Junior College in June 1935 and Riverside Library Service School in 1938 in Riverside, all in Califonia. Mrs. Honey went on to become a Branch Librarian in Richmond, California, then worked assisted with main branch for one year and went on to the Riverside, California Library in the catalog department. She also had worked as a postal carrier. She took in civil service exam and worked as a civilian librarian setting up an Army Library in California. In the early years of the war she received notice to work in the State Department Library in Washington, D.C. which was located right next to the White House, being wartime Viginia did not get to see the inside of the White House. She joined the Army and served in June 1943 on January 8, 1946 in the WAAC (then WAC) and received an honorable discharge as a T-5 Corporal. On March 30, 1958, Virginia married Joel T. Honey. He preceded her in death in 1977. Active as a librarian, a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, she traveled to the Holy Land. Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Mexico and extensive travels throughout the United States. In April 1999, she moved to Cottonwood Village and then moved to Carefree Assisted Living in November 2004. Surviving her is a sister, Jean Kyser of Fresno, California and several nieces and nephews. A sister, Barbara Smith preceded her in death.
