William A. Allen, 83, of Cottonwood died June 7. He was born February 29, 1924 in Mountain View, Arkansas, the son of John and Alice Gertrude (Petty) Allen. Mr. Allen served his country in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was employed as an operating engineer. A member of the First Southern Baptist Church, he enjoyed being a Sunday School teacher. His other interests included woodworking and operating heavy equipment. A loving husband, father and grandfather, he loved to joke and make people laugh. Mr. Allen is survived by his wife of 41 years, Ruth E. Allen; sons Larry (and his wife Shirley) of Phoenix, Ray (and wife Beverly) of California, Robert (and wife Susan) of Surprise; daughters, Shirley and Judy and Linda, all of California; brothers, John, Jr. of Phoenix and Joe (and his wife Elsie) of Texas; stepsons, Stephen, Edward, Phillip and Jack, all of North Carolina, several grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Frank and a sister, Jessie. A memorial service was held on Tuesday, June 12 in the First Southern Baptist Church.
