Wilma Maxine Kau

Wilma Maxine Kau passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, January 3, 2006 after a long illness. She was 88. Wilma was born in Quincy, Illinois on June 17, 1917. She attended college at Northern Baptist Theological Seminary in Chicago, Illinois, and received her Registered Nursing Degree from Good Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing in Phoenix, Arizona in 1944. For thirty years, Wilma and her husband, Charles Louis Kau, were American Baptist Missionaries in West Bengal, India, where, among her many activities, she served as superintendent of nurses at Nekursini Christian Hospital. When they returned from missionary work, Wilma continued serving as a nurse and teacher in Quincy, Illinois. She moved with her husband to Cottonwood, Arizona in 1981. Prior to her retirement, she was a nurse for Catholic Social Services in Cottonwood, Arizona. Wilma was also active in the formation of Mingus Baptist Church. She delighted in entertaining church groups at her home and especially enjoyed the women\u0027s bible study group. Wilma is survived by her husband of 61 years, Charles Louis Kau of Cottonwood, Arizona; her sister, Ina Steinbach of Quincy, Illinois; her brother, Carol Dace of Midlothian, Illinois; her daughter, Ina Kau of Claremont, California; her sons, Clifford Kau of Phoenix, Arizona, Richard Kau of Lake Forrest, Washington, Larry Kau of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and David Kau of Decatur, Illinois; 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Memorial Services will be held at the One In Christ Church in Cottonwood, Arizona on Saturday, January 14, 2006 at 11:00am.
