Wilma Rose Sweetapple Whitby, known to all as Lynn, passed away November 7 in Cottonwood, AZ. Born August 1, 1925 in Clintonville, PA, she was one of eight children. After graduating in 1943 from Bradford High School, she set out for Washington, DC, where she worked briefly for the FBI. She was one of 407 students accepted into the Cadet Nurse Corps program at the Kahler School of Nursing in Rochester, MN, and graduated 30 months later with an RN. In 1946 she was married to William Whitby, and continued to work in nursing until 1952, when she retired to raise her two children. As the kids matured, she was able to fit in courses in English Literature at the University of Arizona and later at Purdue University, where she earned a BA. She went back into nursing, completed the requirements for her Nurse Practitioner certification, and retired from Purdue University Student Hospital in 1987. Lynn and Bill then returned to Arizona and settled in Cottonwood, where their retirement years were filled with extensive travels, countless excursions with The Red Rock Rovers and the Sedona Westerners, book and bridge groups, concerts and summer theatre and time spent with their grandson Matthew and many good friends. Bill passed away in 2013, and Lynn is survived by her youngest brother and two children. An online guestbook is available at www.westcottfuneralhome.com
