Wm Emerson Wright

Wm. Emerson Wright died February 26th, 2012 at home in Cottonwood. He was born May 7, 1928 in Griggs, OK to Earl and Oma Belle Wright. Emerson attended a country school known as the "James School" in Texas County, TX, graduating from Texhoma High School in 1947. He served his country in the Army Signal Corp. as a Tech. Sgt. In Korea. They built telephone lines across Korea. Emerson worked as an Electrician in Dove Creek, CO after his discharge. In 1956 he moved his growing family to Monticello, Utah to begin work at a uranium mill as a shift boss. When that mine and mill closed he transferred to another uranium mill at Jeffery City, WY for another 15 years, followed by employment at Highland Uranium near Glenrock, WY. He retired from Carter Coal, Rawhide Mine, Gillette, WY in 1988. He and his wife moved to Cottonwood in May 1988. He enjoyed travel, camping, square dancing, and most of all, his 4 years employment on the Verde River Excursion Train. He never tired of the trip to Perkinsville and back. Emerson attended Calvary Chapel of the Verde Valley, and was a life member of VFW Post #7400. He volunteered his time as a bingo caller for the VFW Post #7400, Elks Club and American Legion. He delivered meals for Meals on Wheels for several years, and worked the front desk at Clemenceau Heritage Museum as health permitted. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Dallas; three children, Melanie Wright of Casper, WY, Kevin Wright of WY and Lisa Wright of Cottonwood, AZ; and two sisters, Laura Bodham of Phoenix and Helen Ballard of Cottonwood.
